Privacy Policy
ChatDock ("we", "us") provides live-chat software that website owners ("customers") install on their sites to talk with their visitors. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices available.
Data we process for customers
When a visitor uses a ChatDock widget, we process on the customer's behalf:
- Chat messages, including drafts shown as live typing previews to agents (customers can disable typing previews in their widget settings)
- Name and email address when the visitor chooses to provide them
- Technical data: IP address, approximate location derived from IP (country and city), browser and device type, referrer, and the pages visited on the customer's site while the widget is active
For this data the customer is the data controller and ChatDock is the processor. Visitors should consult the privacy policy of the website they are chatting with.
Data we collect from customers
- Account details: name, email, password (stored as a salted hash)
- Workspace configuration and billing details where applicable
How we use data
- To deliver chats in real time between visitors and agents
- To show agents context (visitor page, browser, location) that helps them respond
- To send service emails such as missed-chat notifications
- To secure the service (rate limiting, abuse prevention)
We do not sell personal data and we do not use chat content for advertising.
Retention and deletion
Chat history is retained while the customer's account is active. Customers can request export or deletion of their workspace data, including visitor data, at any time by contacting us. Deleting an account removes its workspaces, conversations, and visitor records.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Access to production systems is restricted.
